Just 25 short miles north of Rapid City, South Dakota is one of the largest motorcycle rallies in the country. The Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™ has been held in the Black Hills for 79 years and still manages to draw crowds almost larger than the entire population of South Dakota. Beginning the first Friday in August, the 10-day long event attracts over half a million people.
The rally events include:
- several guided motorcycle rides;
- the Legendary Sturgis 5k race;
- the Harley Davidson rally point;
- a poker tour;
- a beef tour;
- a few motorcycle races; and
- many live musical performances.
The Sturgis® Motorcycle Rally™ is home to many musical venues. The most famous of which is the Buffalo Chip Campground.
This venue opened in 1981 and has been played by well-known acts that include:
- Bob Dylan
- Tom Petty
- Alice Cooper
- Willie Nelson
- Ozzy Osborn
- And many more!
We here at Whiting Hagg Hagg Dorsey & Hagg, LLP are strong advocates of motorcycle safety. As active members of the local community, we are just as excited as you about the motorcycle events happening in our area right now. However, we recognize that the increase in motorcycle traffic during this event also increases the likelihood of motorcycle accidents. Be safe this week, and if you find yourself the victim of a motorcycle accident call our firm at (605) 250-3003 or contact us online.
